IPM for Ant Control

The best way to control ants is to keep them out in the first place. Sealing entry points, finding nesting areas and controlling food sources are key to controlling ants.
When your technician finds ant trails to your home, he or she will follow the ants to their entry point. Caulk cracks around foundations or openings that provide entry from outside. We Pay special attention to where wires and pipes enter the home, because this is a favorite entry point for ants. Make sure to keep plants and mulch at least 12 inches from the foundations of buildings; they provide nesting sites for ants and other insects.

Although sometimes confused, distinguishing ants and termites is not difficult. Ants have:

  • A narrow constriction between the abdomen and thorax.
  • Antennae that are distinctly elbowed.
  • Hind wings that are much shorter than forewings, if wings are present.

Termites have:

  • A broad waist, where the abdomen and thorax meet.
  • Antennae that are not elbowed.
  • Wings of equal length, when present.
